In house match Sco v Eng
  • BaynerBayner February 2010
OK cats and Kittens who would be for an in house match of GBFUA between Scotland and England to be held annually. The game would be played in Scotland/England alternately and at the end of the season. The game would also be played with no imports as the game would be used to develope our home grown talent. My apologies if this sounds racist but playing Sco v Eng with both teams being loaded with Swede's , Czech's and Finns does no good for developing our home grown talent.

So then who'd be up for it , I would
  • mulletboyjaymulletboyjay February 2010
Well I would, except I'm moving to Sweden this summer so does that make me ineligible? Similarly, Jamie Black and Sam Leeds lived in Denmark last year, would they have been ineligible then as well?

More clarity in what you mean is surely needed because I am English and am 'home-grown' so surely I wouldn't be an import if I were able to play each year.
  • Go for it!
And I will repost any news about it on http://floorballcentral.blogspot.com
To me this is important since it will generate information in English. And to conquerer USA I need english material - it is kind of hard to translate to many
central European languages all the time

I think it is a very good idea, obviously there will be minor details to work out but as a concept it is very good. I would prefer it more as trials for GB than any over-competitive game, and personally would prefer a two-leg game each season but time constraints are obvious for that.

Certainly should happen imo with a few details to sort first.
  • Baker21Baker21 February 2010
This obviously is a great idea and has been done before historically so there is no reason why it can't be done again.

Needs someone to 'champion' and organise from the North and also from the South, this is not me volunteering, I have done enough over the years but I am confident someone like Jamie Black or Sam Leeds may be happy to help down South.

One major problem with this is who decides who plays, do you just play because your English or Scottish? This is when it starts to get difficult......

As for no Swede's or Czech's, etc, not sure how that will work and technically one of the Scottish players should be wearing an English top..........
  • probie21probie21 February 2010
I think that it should players who are eligible to play for GB selected to play in the games, this would give the GB coaching staff a chance to see players from the north and south.

I would be willing to help get something going in the north

looking at the british players in the northern league i would say that 90% of them play for either balwearie or chapel with one or two others around the rest of the teams

Baker i know what your saying here but the answer is no and im sure there is a player on the england side who should be wearing a scotland shirt . Its a great idea for this game to happen as it lets the coaches see the best players in each country . I am happy to try book a venue for this match in scotland if we can agree on a date . I was thinking of using dundee or maybe edinburgh again . Johan if you xlnt to email me and we can maybe set the ball rolling on this

This match sounds like a good idea, however it needs to be made clear why it's being played. Is it a competative Scotland v England game or a game to allow GB Coaches the chance to see some other players ?

I ask this because if it's a true competative game then the Scotland team needs their best players and this would surely mean having a large majority from Speedhoc Chapel, given that we do have the best Scots in the league (based on on results over the last few seasons). Would others be happy with this, probably not but surely in this type of game it's about winning !

If it's a game for the GB Coaches to see new talent, then maybe it should be a line from each club and only players who are interested in playing for GB. No point having the coaches watch someone play who isn't interested in playing for GB. However, this then just turns into a glorified training session.

Just something else to think about ;)

It does exactly as it says on the tin , no imports ( import being , not of this country ) There are a few swedes etc playing in London therefore inelegable as they are not of this country. Jamie and Sam are fine as they as about as Danish as a pint of Scrumpy Jack. It should be those born and bred here and able to play for Britain. This would be used as a means for the GB coaches to see the available talent both sides of the border. I think it would also be good to have a " B " team aswell to be used as a developement type game to let the coaches see emerging talent and the future of our sport. It helps it make it more of a full day rather than 1 game and then home or ( go for a drink ).

bayner with u suggesting a b team is that you looking for a game

What was the criteria for people to take part on previous occasions?
  • probie21probie21 February 2010
everybody will have there opinion on who gets to play, so here is mine

any players who wish to be selected for team GB should be given priorty and if there is too many we can put in two teams, the two team idea is a good one as the traveling players will get to play two games and not just the one

if people cant deciede who plays then why not ask the coaches from Edinburgh or Aberdeen

johan may deceide on what players he wants to see like under a certain age etc

    i await other ideas

Good question there Graeme and all I remember is that it was pretty much whoever was available at the time IIRC.......

Last time that the two nations met, Scotland were victorious......:(

By 'of this country' I guess you mean all of GB, not just your country. So what you mean is that anyone eligible for GB are eligible for this i.e. the 'foreign' players we had in Poland (and whom have played all the other tournaments) actually are eligible despite not being 'home grown'. I think you need to choose how you describe it better.
But then again, if/when it's organised properly I'm sure it'll make more sense and be more clear ;)

Think there is large enough support to get this organised. I will put together a proposal of selection process and how it should be organised and send it over the GBFUA and the various league committes for review. From there we should appoint who takes care of the organising.

Any more suggestions on format - keep it going because I won't have time to send this of to them until early next week and will keep an eye on this thread for more input.

    Cheers.

Well we've certainly taken over floorballforums.com!

There are mentions of a cross border game every so often up here but nothing really more than that. Would suggest there is a keen interest and I'm sure plenty of people would be interested in giving it a go.

I think two teams each would be the best format. Gives plenty of people a chance and provides the travelling team with more games. A simple three way tournament.

On the other hand we could have an England, Scotland and 'foreign' team...
  • Big+CBig C February 2010
If its going to be teams mostly made up of those that wish to play for GB then I wouldnt be too keen on it being called a Scotland v England game, purely from the standpoint that the teams may not be made up of the best players from the respective countries. Something along the lines of GB Trials North v GB Trials South would be a lot better.
  • SIB01SIB01 February 2010
I agree with Big C above. I would prefer the game was a Scotland V England affair and if any of the players wanted to play for the GB team then all well and good but it shouldn't be the reason for the game being played. If the team is only going to be made up of players looking to enter the GB squad it would be as well being called a training session.
  • machymachy February 2010
    I don't know whether i can bust in but ..... well i am ....

Why not organize something like a two day tournament of teams made up from the players of the same nationality. One of the requirements would be that only players who participated in one of the GB leagues this season would be eligible to play.

    Just a thought.

This way you can organize good tournament with more matches and keep reasonably good standard.
  • 13thedevil13thedevil February 2010
Having been involved in England vs Scotland games in the past i would love to see this fixture ressurected but as a game between the two countries for pride/bragging rights with all the best players playing wether they intend to try out for GB or not!!!!

I dont think it should be a training exercise although if the GB coaching staff choose to attend to evaluate players that is there choice.

The GB selection should be seperate where people eligible and who want to play enter open trials as done previously, i feel mixing the two will subtract from what a great spectacle and amount of fun a full blooded fixture like this can be.
  • scott+fscott f February 2010
i have to agree that this game should be the best players of that country for the game to be the great game it should be . If johan want to possible pick players from this great . If not they players should attend the trials incase they maybe had a poor game that day . Having played in the last one would love to play in it again and play against 2 of my club mates and other friends i have made during my time with floorball . Oh and im sure our friends south of the border will be looking to overturn the 4-2 defeat from the last time
  • Very nice details about houes match Sco v Eng..........
