Help with dragshots.
  • SoupaSoupa April 2009
I've been playing floorball for 3months now, my ball control, passing, and wrist shots have been improving significantly. But somehow my dragshots are still very lousy. I cant perfom a dragshot such that the ball goes to the place i want or make the ball fly.
Do i have to use my supporting hand to flick the ball a little when im doing it?
Can anyone help me with this?

Its all about your hook... If you want to master this kind of a shot you'll have to hook the blade to the shape of a scoop. And of course practice a lot.

    Good luck!

not necessarily, you just need to try to keep the blade on the ball. I can easily dragshot with my stock salming cypher playmaker, which is dead flat.

its all about practice though, you start to get a feel for how to position your body after a lot of practice!

You can do very good dragshots even with the straightest of blades and maybe even aim better without having this hook making your shoots becoming more "random".
What is important is to keep the ball close to your blade at all time, also understand the balls flow and path inside your blade as you shoot.
What gives your dragshot good power and speed is your body position and shape, also how you twist/snap and turn your wrist and body in the end of the shoot.

The aim is all about practice and understanding the curve of the shoot, that is from the right to the left if you're are a lefty.
Try to see if the ball is in the tip of your blade in the very end of your shoot, as doing a good dragshot can be very hard if the ball is too close to the stick.
Often the ball starts in the middle of the blade and in the time of release, the ball is in the the tip of the blade.

This is a picture that shows the basic actions behind the dragshot.
Where the aim is to understand the shot curve as the picture shows.
Also understand the balls movement inside the blade while you shoot to give it the perfect release.

In the end it is all about practice, understanding this might not be very important, but rader something you will come to understand as your dragshot improve.

    Good Luck!

Have a look at the Swedish site Skottskolan (also in other languages) for some video instructions...
