Currently into my second season of playing Floorball and want to get away from the Uni helmet which, due to it being used by several people, smells like sin. It's a really great helmet though, a Salming jason pro, and i'm torn between getting another Salming or an obo which I used to use as a field hockey goalie. Has anyone got any advice on what they use day in day out? I have a budget which is £150 max (i'm a student so spending the whole budget will see me on beans and toast for a while). Hey Ahmed,

I have a Salming Jason Pro helmet as well as a Salming 2-face helmet I really like. However, both are fairly expensive and it sounds like you're fairly budget-conscious. To me, the keys to a good helmet are that a) the cage gives you a clear view of the game in front of you and b) the helmet fits well such that it does not move around and distract or obstruct your view when you're moving about or otherwise hinder your play.

I have no doubt you can find something that embodies both a) and b) qualities in a non-floorball-specific goalie helmet (e.g. a hockey helmet), but be aware that if you play in an IFF-sanctioned event, you must wear equipment that meet the requirements (http://www.floorball.org/default.asp?sivu=6&kieli=826). The most notable requirement being that the cage of the mask must not be wide enough for a floorball stick blade to pass through (for obvious safety reasons).

I've tried on one of the new unihoc summit masks and like the fit and feel of it. Also the removable inner pads make cleaning it a lot easier so thus far that is top of the list. Will give the 2-face a try though as i've seen it quite a few times at tournaments and it looks pretty cool. Once again thanks a lot, Ahmed.
